Author's Note~ This is a my comparative essay from social studies. This piece is relating "The Patriot" and the real events.
Betrayal. What does this word make you think of? Your little brother taking a ugly picture of you when you were sleeping and showing all his friend of you younger sister telling your mom that you stole money out of her purse when she wasn’t looking. But did this word ever date you back to the Revolutionary War. Well it should because that’s what this war was all about. The movie “Patriot” Really captured that. It was able to descriptively show us how much betrayal there really was. Yet there were something’s that it didn’t pursue very well.
Something’s that weren’t accurate include how fast the guns were loaded. There is no way that the guns were loaded as quickly as displayed in it took about thirty seconds to a minute each for each bullet to be reloaded. It wasn’t as easy as they made it seem. Also the accuracy was unbelievable, never a missed shot. Plus Ben’s little boys that are around 6 years old being able to kill more than 4 people without even knowing how to hold a gun, no way.
It doesn’t end there. How did the Americans always know exactly where to find the British? Wasn’t it a little more difficult? More like a scavenger hunt. They were always showing up at the right place at the right time. Do you really think this is how it would of happened in reality? I don’t. Not only were the Americans quick so were the British the British were really able to yank at the heart of the Americans.
The target; Family. That was the British’s focus. If they were able to kill loved once then there was a chance that the Americans would retreat. So not only did these fighting men have to deal with losing their lives there was a chance that there family could be hurt or robed. Like both of bens sons who were killed. Also Gabriel’s wife burned in a church. This is similar to what really happened, houses burned. The way Aunt Scarlet’s was.
It is sad to think that this is really how these people acted towards each other. This movie is a good one to understand the basic betrayal behind the war but not a close to being a documentary. If you’re looking for facts not a good movie but if you want to understand what it felt like to be in the position for fighting in the war then this a great inspirational movie
