What can be learned by reading a book? In the book "The Pearl" there are a lot of lessons that the character has to learn. The main character in this book Kino has changed a lot through out this book. Almost like he was a different person
In the beginning of the book they described Kino as a nice loving father and husband. He was strong mentally and physically. He should this through out the book he had a good mind set. He always thought of his family before himself. He cared a lot about his family about his family. It wasn't hard to notice that. H would of risk his life for his wife Juana and son Coyotito. He would do anything for them. His son got stung by a scorpion in he beginning of the book. Kino was mad he was afraid he was going to lose his son. So he killed the scorpion. Juana is also a strong loving person she was determined to not let her son die so right away she tried sucking out all the passion. She was afraid that wouldn’t work. So the strong determined women she was she went right to the doctor. HE refused to help there son so she was devastated. After they got rejected they went pearling. Kino found "the pearl of the world" Yu would think that finding the pearl would bring him and his family good fortune. But, it started to tear his family apart. Kino became selfish and only cared about the pearl. Juana just wanted to get rid of the pearl but he would not let her he wanted to keep it and sell it for good money and he didn’t want to get cheated. He guarded the pearl with his life. It seemed like he thought the pearl was more important then his family. It changed him so much by the end of the book he killed about 4 people over the pearl. And he beat up his wife. Also he lost his son.
Over all the lesson that Kino had to learn was the being greedy gets you nothing in life. He just let the pearl take him over, he should of listened to Juana and got rid of the pearl right away because than his house wouldn’t of been set on fire and he wouldn’t have to hide in his brothers house. He was not him self in the end of the book he was a different person.
